Machinist files (also called Engineers files) are cheaper files used for general purpose industrial use.  These are not jewelers files, having only a double cut across the diagonal and are not recommended for fine jewelry use.  These are the types of files that are used by mechanics, engineers, and other trades for quickly removing hard metals.  In other words, these are the files that you use if you are not a jeweler! The Vallorbe ECO Range of Machinist files are the cheapest files (ECO for economical) you can get from Vallorbe, and they are not made in Switzerland.

In fact, the Machinist files have a different cut ratings than jewelers files, which are called precision files or Swiss pattern files.  Machinist files are based on an American standard, and have names like first cut and second cut. These Vallorbe ECO machinist files are also referred to as a Bastard cut, which is just a bit coarser than a jewelers cut 00. To add to the confusion they are marked with a number 1 which stands for first cut. This is the coarse cut offered in any file we sell.

This makes for a good set of files for household chores, or for anyone who wants to "borrow" one of your files to do some plumbing or automotive work. In fact, this set is so reasonable you should definitely have a couple of these assortments laying around for the gear heads and grease monkeys you know.
