Spring Loaded Planishing Hammer-Standard Size

2-3/8" (62mm) Diameter Top Platen x 3" (76mm) Diameter Bottom Platen

Stationary Planishing Hammers, also called stationary planishing hammers or large planishing hammers are excellent for quickly straightening out and repairing sheet metal or just about anything else you would like to make perfectly flat. Just place an item on the flat table and press down on the spring-loaded hammer. The platens are hardened to Rockwell 60, making them suitable for flattening non ferrous soft metal alloys of copper, brass, silver and gold. You can also flatten harder metals, but take care-metals that are harder than the platens may damage the platens.

This is the standard size Planishing Hammer, with an upper round platen measuring 2-3/8" (62 mm), and a removable lower platen measuring 3" (76 mm) diameter. The Standard Planishing Hammer stands 15-1/2" (390 mm) tall, and has a base of 7-1/4" (185 mm) x 5-1/16" (130 mm).

I expected a better.

Otto Frei is an excellent company that I’ve relied on for quality products and service.
This might just be the new standard of quality or maybe it slipped through quality control.
Using a planishing hammer with tooling marks, pits and light rust doesn’t fit with the level of quality work we produce.
I’ve disassembled it and am putting a usable finish on it before I use it.
I’m not thrilled but it’s not a deal breaker. This product might not be but Otto Frei is five stars.

I just got it last night

I unpacked it but haven't had a chance to use it yet. The sucker is HEAVY! It looks like a quality piece of equipment.
