Spring Loaded Planishing Hammer-Large Size
3" (77mm) Diameter Top Platen x 4-3/16" (105mm) Diameter Bottom Platen
Stationary Plainishing Hammers, also called stationary planishing hammers or large planishing hammers, are excellent for quickly straightening out and repairing sheet metal or just about anything else you would like to make perfectly flat. Just place an item on the flat table and press down on the spring-loaded hammer.
The platens are hardened to Rockwell 60, making them suitable for flattening non ferrous soft metal alloys of copper, brass, silver and gold. You can also flatten harder metals, but take care-metals that are harder than the platens may damage the platens.
This is the large size Planishing Hammer, with an upper round platen measuring 3" (77 mm), and a removable lower platen measuring 4-3/16" (105 mm) diameter. This Large Size Planishing Hammer stands 21-1/2" (545 mm) tall, and has a base of 8-1/4" (210 mm) x 5-1/16" (130 mm). Shipping weight is 55 lbs. Net weight is 48 Lbs. (21.8 kilos)

I almost did not purchase this item due to the high price for such a simple tool. I had several uses in mind for it and took the plunge. Well, it is rather heavy. It is very well made. It looks great. But most of all, it works perfectly and has uses beyond straightening bent metals. I am a big fan of the Italian made tooling from Otto Frei. I regularly use the heavy drawplates for items that I make. For the 2' long drawings, I machined a roller set to straighten things. This planishing hammer quickly allows me to fine the needed straightness. The planishing hammer works perfectly. Another use for it is in very slightly "expanding" gears which were cut a tad undersize. This planishing hammer expands the gears and work hardens them in the process. It can also be effectively used to set rivets. I have a few additional uses in mind for the tool related to fold forming. If you can afford it, you will like it and use it.
This is a fattening champ! This was one of my favorite tools at Revere for making anything flat, even helped with edges bent or turned from cutting.
