14KY,14KW,18KY,18KW & Platinum 6.1mm Guardian Positive Locking Earring Backs 

These are the Original Guardians 6.1mm outside diameter Positive locking earring backs with straight triggers that fit 0.89mm diameter posts (also available in a larger 7.1mm outside diameter that fit a thicker 1.06mm diameter post and have comfort triggers, see part number 210-304).  They are also called Guardian Ear Nuts and Safety Earring Backs. 

 

Positive locking earring backs have been on the market since the French first produced the ZOP system in the late 20th century.  They are a marvelous invention that keeps earring secure while requiring 2 tabs on either side of the ear nut for the nut to be released. They are positive locking, as the tabs snap close around a groove on the matching ear post. While the original ZOPS are no longer made, and some other brands have come and gone, the Guardians are now the dominate locking system in the market.   They differ from the more expensive Guardian II by having straight ridged tabs on either side of the clutch, while the Guardian II has slightly larger tabs that are bent over to present a smooth surface to push. Some people complained about the difficulty in activating these original straight tabs, but for most folks it is not an issue. We always recommend that you use these clutches with their matching ear posts (see 20B-302POMAIN below), but talented jewelers can always spend the time and effort to make a post work with these systems.
