Product Details

LP1170 and LP1171 Joint Round Edge files from Glardon-Vallorbe are parallel in width and thickness, with rounded edges. These files are cut on the edges only. They are used for getting into thin narrow spaces where they will file depth wise but not any wider than you want. Jewelers need them for fabricating joints, hinges and tubing. Also used in guitar repair and servicing as bridge & nut slotting files.

Joint Round Edge files (Chenier files) are only made in cut 2 medium. The cut length is 100 mm (4") by 10 mm (0.39") width. Choose from a variety of thicknesses, from 0.3 mm (0.012") to 2.0 mm (5/64" or 0.079") thick. Overall length including tang is 5-5/8". Can be used with file handles 137.781 (Vallorbe Blue Plastic Size #1) & 137.815-34 (Vallorbe Condor 3-4 mm).

How to read the factory part numbers for Joint Round Edge Files

4-2-0.3 translates into: 4 (Inches)-2 (Cut)-0.3 mm (Thickness)

Things you should know about ordering hand files:

Glardon-Vallorbe Swiss Made Precision Files are measured from the point where the teeth begin to the end of the file. A 6" half-round ring file will measure 8-1/2" long from tip to end of tang, but it is called a 6" file.

Glardon-Vallorbe Swiss Made Precision Files are graded with a number from 00 for coarsest to 6 for finest. Remember, the higher the number the finer the cut.

Not as advertised

Ordered LP1170-4-2-0.6, LP1171-4-2-0.8, and LP1171-4-2-1.0 round edge files. When I received the order the LP1170-4-2-0.6 was the only one that is round. The other two, LP1171-4-2-0.8, and LP1171-4-2-1.0 are flat end files.
They need to not advertise them as round edge files. Big difference between the two types.
